The SCA, Fighting and Me, Page 18

July 1 2003.

I fear that I've neglected updating this jornal for sometime now. With two children, one doesn't always have the time to do all the things you want to do. While my daughter is now a year old I've not been able to get back to fighting on a regular basis. Even though I had been fine in armour before my pregnancy, I fear that I now have 'lizards' to battle.

I have been getting fustrated at practice. I haven't been able to find the same enjoyment in fighting. Then I got to fight / spar with someone new. Someone who I find to be an inspiration on the field. When I'm working with her I get the joy out of practice I had been getting. Perhaps I'm just fustrated with working with the same fighters week after week. Perhaps it's just the mindset I'm in.

Batteling with your 'lizards' has once again been a topic of conversation on the Iron Rose list. I find that list and all its particiants to be great help and inspiration. While I know I'll not be giving up fighting, I hope it won't take forever to get past this stumbeling block.

On a better note, I've now completed with some help a set a pauldrons. My armour is now almost completely my own. Only my elbows need to be replaced, and if all goes well, I just might have that done before Pennsic!

Starting next week, there will be fight practice in my back yard :) I'm really looking forward to this. It's going to be geared to the women fighters. With any luck we will get enough women out to run a small melee! I will keep everyone informed on how these practices go.
